My car is sluggish when I accelerate & after going maybe 5 miles there is a smel

My car is VERY sluggish when I accelerate. Once when I pushed it to see what would happen: I pushed down on the gas pedal & it didn't go faster right away as it shoyld. After going maybe 5 miles there is a smell like burned rubber. It's bad enough I have to open the window most of the time. I don't drive alot so the problem is at a dull roar (I hope)
