EGR Valve

What is your question?

Engine light came on. Took to dealer and they told me the EGR valve needs to be replaced. Car only has 30k miles. Didn't do repair. However, 2 days later, the light went off. Does this mean my car is functioning properly now? When the light first came on, it was idling kind of rough for about a minute. Since then, it has run just fine. What do you suggest. Dealer wants $500 to replace. Ouch!
