Will not shift out of first
What is your question?
My car will not shift out of first. Does this mean I need a new trans? or can it be a simple problem that will not cost me several thousand?

It is hard to say without a good diagnosis. Have the transmission checked for electrical function - a good technician can determine whether it is a sensor issue or internal fault. My gut feeling, though, is an internal issue. Good luck - and Happy Thanksgiving.
