My car suddenly shuts off as im driving then i have to wait about 30 mins for it to turn back on what can be happening

The probpems happens everyday sometimes twice a day, i hear a little rattle under the car. Wen i hit a pot hole my car swerves a little
What makes this problem better or worse?
Its better when i don't drive it for a couple of days
