How do you access and remove the spark plugs closest to the firewall? Can it be done from underneath the vehicle?

As you have already noticed, it can be a very difficult job to replace the "rear" spark plugs in your 2008 Chevrolet Uplander. You can approach the problem from to top or the bottom. It either case it will be likely that components will need to be removed to gain access. From the underside, it is not uncommon to remove the exhaust header pipe including the catalytic converter to gain access. From the top side, removing the ignition coil and module assembly can be of help. In some cases it is also possible to "rotate" the engine forward using special tools to gain access to the rear. Your Uplander should be equipped with spark plugs designed to last 100k miles. If you are not having problems, replacing them before the 100k interval may be a waste of time. If you are at the 100k interval it may be a good idea to replace the spark plug wires along with the spark plugs so that you will not be working on the rear of the engine again any time soon.
