What is your question?
My mechanic recommended I have my tranny oil changed (64,000 miles) but since then I have had issues with it hard up shifting in 3rd and 5th gears (sometimes 2nd.) I checked the dipstick and it calls for dexron 3 but the mechanic put in dexron 6. Everything I am reading says that dexron 6 is interchangeable with 3, but I am curious if there are times that it isn't.

Dexron VI is the latest and best ATF for GM vehicles. They are superior to the old Dex III and should be used in all transmissions which used DEX III before. I think the issue might be something else. I"d ask them to reset the transmission adaptation and it might take care of the problem. Zee
Man leadfoot, are you punching it? Just kidding, are your universal joints in good shape?
Lol. Not usually, but I do live in a big city and sometimes you have to.:) Have never been told that there was a problem with the universal joints and havent had any signs that they may be going bad.
Thank you Zee. I have taken the vehicle back in since the issue started and they reset the code. It was coding at a long shift. It did not fix the problem. Any other ideas on what it can be? The vehicle does not hard shift until it has warmed up. It runs great in the mornings when it is cool but after 20-30 min of driving the hard shifting begins.
Is the fluid level correct? How the fluid service was done? only a drain and fill, or they removed the pan, changed the filter and refilled it, perhaps complete fluid exchange with a flash machine - without pan removal? Zee BTW, Is there a K&N filter installed? PS, I find something for you. Post an e-mail and I'll send it.
They removed the pan, changed the filter, and refilled it. The bill from the mechanic says that the filter kit used was a F96-Pronto (don't know if that means anything.) You'll have to excuse my ignorence on the subject, but I am a novice at car repair.
Sorry, the K&N is a reusable air filter. I have some info that might be useful to fix your problem, but I can't post it here, it has graphics in it. If you give me an e-mail I can send you the whole TSB. Zee
Thanks Zee for the email info, unfortunately the info didnt help this issue. Had it back into the mechanic today for the 3rd time and after extensive diagnostics they were unable to find anything. It coded at p1811 with no obvious reasons. They are now reccommending driving it until there are other issues and then having the transmission rebuilt, or rebuilding it now. I will take it to another transmission shop and see if they recommend changing the TPS as I hear that route is the cheapest way to go to see if the problem is fixed. It is all very frustrating.
