Why are my parking lights randomly flashing just once a lot every 30 seconds

This just started today, as far as I know. I started my car.....not remotely......to let it warm up before driving to work. When I came back outside, the rear hatch door was open. Then tonight, after I shut the car off and got out, the hatch opened and close on its own. Now the park lights are flashing again. I did check to make sure the knob for the lights is in auto. I've looked all over the manual but found nothing.
What makes this problem better or worse?
