Customer Concern: Repeat Powertrain Control Module (PCM) code: P1400. The vehicle runs OK otherwise. Tests/Procedures: 1. Check that the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor and the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) values match on cold start. 2. Check for intake manifold leaks on cold start. 3. Check for air duct leaks. 4. Check condition of the air filter. 5. NOTE: The air filter must have the same predicted air flow that the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) filter had. 6. Clean the throttle bore. 7. Clean the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor elements.
DTC P1400: Cold Start Emission Reduction Control System Circuit/System Description The catalytic converter must be warmed to efficiently reduce the emissions. The cold start strategy is to reduce the amount of time it takes to warm the catalytic converter. During a cold start, the engine idle speed is elevated and spark timing is retarded to allow the catalyst to warm quickly.
