Has anyone had problems with Instrument Cluster going dead?

New recent problem...@255,000 miles, Instrument cluster gages drop out AND all warning lights come on, EXCEPT Tach, Speedo and ODO are OK. Car runs FINE, no performance issues.
Sometimes problem is there when car starts, other times all is fine, and then suddenly gages drop out.
I have found that if I tap several times FIRMLY on the top left corner of the IC face, everything returns to normal for a while.
On a RARE occasion, (1 out of 50 times) the radio and Driver door electric drop out. AND.. this morning, for the first time in 4 months of dealing with this, the car would not start. No power to the starter until AFTER I tapped on the IC face.
Suggestions? Similar experiences?
