Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! In most cases, when the 4WD indicator light blinks, it means there's an issue with the system trying to engage or disengage, rather than being a feature or reminder. For your 2004 Chevrolet Tracker, the blinking light is usually an indication that the 4WD system is having trouble fully engaging. This could be due to a number of reasons, like a malfunctioning actuator, sensor, or an issue with the transfer case. If the light goes solid once 4WD is fully engaged, then you're good. But if it keeps blinking, you might want to get the system checked out to avoid further issues.
