I have a 2003 tracker with a V6 and the front left tire area of my truck started making this groaning noise when I turn to the left. My mechanic said it is the rack and pinion on the front left wheel and it needs to be replaced. He said it was $800. I have not had it replaced yet, but will need to do it soon. I only have 67,000 miles on this truck.
your majesty, Was your mechanic able to find the problem? Did he say where the noise was coming from?
just had dealer look at same problem today... said its a bearing in the steering rack and pinion... told me that its more irritating than a necessity to fix. I have a 2005 trailblazer... quoted me 380 to fix, with the bearing only costing about 30 bucks itself. damn labor cost. looked online and have found remanufactured racks for between 180 to 300 dollars.
i have a 2004 chev tracker i had the same issues with hitting a bump or turning the wheel it would make a loud noise- i took it in got the sway bar bushings fixed the noise was not fixed i took it back and i just got the call that its the sway bar link that was seized causing the noise so they are replacing them both so HOPEFULLY this will be fixed!
I have the same noise with a 2003 tracker. Did replacing the sway bar link fix the problem?
