What is your question?
I have a 2008 Tahoe with a 5.31 recently it just suddenly started overheating at a stop light and the engine shook it kicked off stabilitrack and went into protection mode. I first checked the oil level which was low so I topped that off and was able to drive it home without overheating again. I took it in for an oil change the next morning which it didn't overheat on the way there and had them run to see any codes present which one of the codes that came up was p1258. As I left the shop it almost instantly started overheating so l pulled over and had to do so several times to be able to cool it down to get home. I am trying to work on it myself. I swapped out the reservoir cap hoping it would be the cheapest fix. I have checked the fans and they both kick on once the engine reaches operating temp. I can provide more info outside of this chat.

Hi! This is Bo with Car Genius at RepairPal! Overheating is no fun! I'm sorry that happened. The P1258 code indicates an issue with the engine coolant temp sensor or the thermostat. Since you've already checked the fans and replaced the reservoir cap, the next steps would be to inspect the coolant temperature sensor and thermostat. Ensure the sensor is reading accurately and the thermostat is opening and closing properly to regulate coolant flow. If they seem fine, consider flushing and refilling the coolant system to eliminate any air pockets or blockages. If these things don't solve the problem, you may want to consider a chemical test to check for exhaust gases mixing in the coolant passages which would indicate a possible head gasket issue. Ok, I will be replacing the coolant temp sensor and the thermostat tomorrow and be back to say if that fixed it or not. I know when it comes to a blown head gasket there are signs like a coolant leak, milky oil, bubbling in the reservoir or white smoke either from the exhaust or under the hood and none of those things have presented.
So I swapped out the coolant temp sensor first so I wouldn’t lose too much coolant if that was the only issue and when I took the old one out it spewed out at first like there was an air pocket almost similar to when you put mentos in coke and then went to a steady stream after putting that in I took the coolant reservoir cap off and started the engine and let it run for a minute or two trying to get any air out of the system went for a drive around the neighborhood 2 times at about 15-20 mph and it held steady at the 210 I then pulled out onto a main road where it’s 35 and it slightly started to overheat and when I pulled back in my driveway I popped the hood and left it running to look and I noticed bubbles in the reservoir which I hadn’t seen before any thoughts?
