Why would my Gas light not come on?

What is your question?

When my car is low on gas normally the gas light would come on when I have around 40 miles left. Now, the gas light doesn’t come on until well after my miles til empty says low. It does come on eventually just not right away like it used to so it can’t be the light just being out.
