It started out my smelling gas and then it started leaking took it to the shop and they told me the line going into the tank was rusted out so I had to get a fuel pump for it. That's bull I only have 21000 miles on my truck.

Metal fuel lines (as well as metal brake fluid lines) run along the frame rail and are exposed to winter time road salt which results in rust .. There are no metal lines 'inside' the fuel tank. I agree that shouldn't have happened .. However that's just how it is .. *It's not just GM!* .. Maybe all the manufacturers should use a better line material.
The fuel pump module assembly does have a short metal line permanently attached to the top of it .. If that rusted through - pump module replacement would be required.
