Replaced fuel pump gauge always worked before. When I replaced the pump the gauge is reading empty after a few days of it reading fine.
How long has your 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 had this problem?
A few days

Failed wiring to pump module - - failed pump module ‘gauge sender’ ..
It's very common for the gauge to go bad on 03-06 Silverados and if you've already done the sending unit then you can be sure it's the gauge honestly. Each gauge has a motor that controls it's needle movement and when the motor goes out the gauge will either stick, jump around or die all together. Recommend ‘Delphi’ pump module.
I’m leaning more towards wiring to pump module because when I hook my multimeter up the new and old sending units I get a change in resistance when I move the the fuel float arm up and down. Do you have any recommendations for checking wiring to pump module and grounds to fuel gauge?
I’m retired (master technician) I always had the luxury of a professional quality scanner that made short work of this diagnosis.. Scanner has capability of testing all gauges (sweep test) and reading actual fuel sender signal so the failure can be quickly determined.. Using a multi tester can be deceiving as you’re providing your own ground circuit. Reading the ‘rheostat’ directly at the sending unit with the meter is not a truly reliable test as the failure may still be within the pump module. I would find a friend or even local repair facility who has the required scan tool to do the functional test I mentioned previously.. That’s the most accurate way to determine what has failed as it gathers information directly from the body control module.. IF BCM reflects same as fuel gauge - problem is within the signal circuits - IF BCM reflects differently from fuel gauge - problem is within fuel gauge.. To accurately use the multimeter - you’ll need a wiring schematic so testing can be performed at the dash cluster checking the correct wiring.
Okay thanks man! I do have a scanner tool so I’ll have to hook that up and see what I’m getting readings wise because now that you say that my check engine light did come on the same time the gauge quit working! So I’ll check that and get back with you! Appreciate it!
