My heater hadn't worked so I replaced my t-stat but noticed no coolant in reservoir but had no light or gauge showing overheating? couldn't find a leak anywhere either so a friend/mechanic told me to replace pressure cap on reservoir, wha-la fixed the loosing antifreeze part and had heat for a while. Now my COLD air starts out cold then goes warm with a stale smell inside truck, sometimes goes back cold after 15-25 mins. I added Freon and helped for a couple hours but then started warming again with smell. Just this week I've noticed a whistle sound (like a kid learning how to whistle) very short toot, while truck is moving, either rolling or pressing gas pedal/brake. Could it be a leak in the dash? Or under hood?

If the AC is leaking Freon the cold air is not going to come and go. It will get warm and stay warm because the freon is gone. You may have a vacuum leak in the hoses under the hood at the firewall. The switch that turns your heater on (directs the heat to your vents) is a vacuum operated switch. A leak in the lines will make this switch work sometimes and not work other times. That heat on heat off may be the reason for the temperature fluctuations with the air coming into the cab.
ok I'll replace the hoses and see what happens. thanx Alright, I changed the hvac/heater hose on firewall with "white" quick disconnect , hose with connector (I read on blogs that the WHITE connector goes bad or cracks easily) so replaced that one and refilled antifreeze. However I still don't have ice cold air and still have whistle sounds. What is the other hose next to it called? Coolant hose or lower radiator hose?
nope, never really had any problems with the truck except rearend replacement. yes still losing Freon and its 83f in Florida ugh When I add more Freon the clutch cycles ON & OFF and I do get cold air but not for long, I guess I need to get a gauge and read the pressure, I saw it MUST read 40psi?
