1993 4.3 on acceleration occasionally has no power and spits back thru throttle body

Hello, This engine has no form of variable valve timing, so an intermittent backfire through the intake manifold is most likely attributed to a burnt valve allowing combustion events to travel back into the intake manifold. Have a compression and/or leak test performed on the engine, and see if you drop pressure on one or more cylinders. Also, scan for OBD-I trouble codes, as the check engine light is probably on. The other thing that might be happening is you may have a misfire in the distributor, which will make the engine sound as if it is rapidly misfiring... because it is. Check the ignition system first, and move to checking the ability of the valves to seal the combustion chambers.
