Use paper clip to get flash codes... They still be in there!.. Post codes here for more information... Distributor set back in *EXACTLY* like it came out?
Pushrod: The distributor has been out a couple of times and the mechanic I took it to replaced my new stuff as well...Timing is right on...Do you think it could be a worn distributor? It all acts like fuel, however I just watched a video on You Tube about too much sloop in distributor on a 5.7....there is no miss in the engine. I also just changed the EGR valve thinking it might be carbon buildup.....not! no difference
I'm sure the distributor shaft was tested for ANY lateral movement at all.. They do give some trouble with worn bushings... Has the codes been read?
I dont have tool to read them. I left my truck with a mechanic of 40 years plus....He gave up on it. However I dont know if he checked the play in distributor...I went the Auto Zone and they say its too old for them to check the codes
Google > how to get obd 1 codes on GM.. Is easy, probably find a YouTube video...
Pushrod: You are a lifesaver man thanks! I read the code by jumping the pins (never knew you could do that but been out of the loop for a long time) O2 sensor is what it indicated and it had been replaced by the guy I took it to with a universal one....I got an OEM one and things are fine now. Got a lot of new parts on engine now but there is 250,000 miles on the truck so I dont feel bad about all the parts I bought. Going to drive it for a long time to come...thanks again...
Well it ain't so bad to put a few extra parts on one with that mileage and you plan to keep driving it... Glad you got it figured out!
thanks again....you guys do this stuff for free?
Yeah we do, all the time!.. Still get cussed from time to time for just trying to help.. Go figure.. I guess some folks just don't realize that there are a few damn good, very technical mechanics on this site with a BUNCH of experience.. I'm not one of em.. but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express... Thanks for the reply...
