Sounds like the BTSI (brake transmission shift interlock) cable is sticking. You will need to remove the center console and see if it is releasing all the way when you put the car in park. There will be a cable attached to the shifter that you should see the tip of it move out when you put it in gear and it should get pushed back in (like a plunger) when put in park.
