What is your question?
I just put in a new timing chain kit in my 2010 Chevy Malibu. How can I tell if it’s been activated? Can I take it out and then put it back in?

Hey, my name is Dusty and I'm one of the auto experts with RepairPal's Car Genius team here to help! Most timing chain tensioners have some sort of retention device, like a pin, or a clip that keeps the tensioner in a collapsed position. Once the tensioner is installed, the timing is set, and slack is oriented correctly, the retention device is either removed, or there are steps to engage the tensioner properly This helps ease the installation and removal processes, which will vary based on the specific engine in your Malibu. If you're uncertain, it's best to consult with a competent pro to verify proper installation and functionality, because lack of tension, or improper application of tension can cause problems.
