Check engine light on 2007 Chevy Malibu

Check engine light first went on in September, after I had an oil change. That evening, I tried to start my car, but it wouldn't start. I was told the battery was dead, and I replaced the battery. Check engine light went out, but about two weeks ago, it came back on and is now on all the time. I brought my car to a garage, and they changed the gas tank cap, but the check engine light is still on. The garage said the diagnostic code showed I needed a vapor canister vent solenoid and vapor canister purge solenoid. Do you think this is the problem? Do you think both of these would be needed, as they both have different functions? When I get gasoline, when the tank if almost full, the pump keeps shutting off, even though it could take another gallon or so of gasoline.
