What is your question?
I was driving my car for awhile and my gaslight came on. I just filled it up to a little over half a tank today so I pulled over shut the car off and then restarted it. The gaslight went off and the gauge returns to half a tank. I drove my car home. I turned the ignition off and restarted it again and the it was still on half a tank. I turned the car off and left it at my house. I called my mechanic and he said I should have no problem driving it as long as there is gas in it. I need to know if my car is safe to drive because I have to get to work and too a doctor's appointment
What makes this problem better or worse?

Hello, the actual fuel level as far as you know it is more reliable than a gauge and warning light - so, yes, as your mechanic said - drive the vehicle. I would recommend filling the tank sooner than later so you can have peace of mind that you have fuel present. Then, as time permits, testing of the fuel indicator system would be needed to find out what's going on.
