over heating

Is the coolant level OK and do the fans come on? If the coolant level is/was low have the coolant system pressure tested to find the source of the leak so it can be repaired. Make sure the fan is being controlled so it comes on at the right temperature. See if water is circulating through the radiator as the engine is revved up you should see coolant move in the radiator if the water pump is good. After that test for a blown head gasket. Everything is just a guess without being able to do tests first hand.
