What is your question?
without warning, my husband was driving car home and gauge went over to red area and steam came from engine. He put more coollant in it and attempted to get home . He did not make it. We had to have towed. He stated there was some fluid on ground after he stopped car. Does it sound like a hose or maybe the thermostat? He smelled antifreeze once stopped car and opened the door to get out. Waiting to hear from mechanic. thanks

It is not a good idea to drive an over heating car unless it is a position where it is dangerous for you or your car to leave it where it is.It could be many things, unfortunately and without experiencing the problem first hand or being able to do some basic diagnostic tests its hard to say. I could be a stuck thermostat, a burst hose, electric fans not coming on when they are needed. After driving the car it may a god idea to have a block test (a simple chemical test) to see that the head gasket is not damaged.
