my lumina seem like it want's to cut off after reaching freeway speeds of 55to65 mph ther is some type of surge also car shakes after 60to65 mph

Sounds like a misfire, but this can be many things. One would need to experience the problem and run a few tests and checks to determine what is going on here. Better take it to a shop and have a diagnosis performed.

use the shifter to reach the speed, sounds like the charcoal canister. use 2 and D as the shifter as u will stay in these gears and allow more acceleration until u reach 55 then use overdrive. careful not to drive to long in a low gear
