Just put a new thermostat in which runs at 195 degrees and new sensor installed also. Now the tempeture gauge on the dashboard goes above the half way point and it always use to stay down around one quarter. Fans are kicking in ok, cooling system is fine. Any ideas about this tempeture gauge being up so high?

I believe the ECM computer is programmed to turn on the first fan at about 223 degrees, and the second fan at about 240 degree or above. So, the engine temp. is maintained at about 223 degree at least by the first fan, and the temperature gauge is about a quarter passed the half way point, as you said. Since ECM is programmed by GM, there must be a tech. reason why engine temp. is kept this way! ( not at the half way point, like many newer cars)
