I can trying to figure out the problem with my electrical system. Battery is new. Alternator is charging when running at 14+. When I let the car sit over night, the battery is dead in the morning. I disconnected the alternator and did this overnight and the battery is still dead so I know it's not a guy owed on the alternator.
However when I try to check the parasitic draw, it shows no amps. Is there something wrong with my meter? I know I have a good connection.
RepairPal Certified shops can diagnose and repair your 1993 Chevrolet Lumina APV. They provide transparent pricing with a minimum 12-month or 12,000-mile warranty on repairs and services.
Check out youtube for a vid on parasitic load testing.... You'd be surprised what you can learn about using a DVOM for this procedure... and the procedure itself!!
Thank You. I have done just that and looked at a lot of videos from Eric the Car guy and others.
My problem is the battery drains overnight, but when i check the parasitic draw with the DVM on a full draw, it shows 0 amps and ive tried on all scales. That may be the case, but then what's drawing the battery down?
The starter works fine. Bad something in the starter that draws the battery down?
I've also checked the alternator on charging and its 13.8 - 14.4 in the good range somewhere anytime ive checked it. Battery is new.
I've also disconnected the alternator overnight and the battery drains.... to me that says its a draw someehere and not related to a bad diode in the alternator.
I'm out of ideas and ready to take it to my mechanic.
ANybody have thoughts?
