Typically how long before a permanent P0442 code clears if issue resolved?

I have 2019 Chevy Impala. Check engine light came on. Code shows P0442. Bought new gas cap as first try, cleared code and check engine light went away. However, the permanent code is still there after a few weeks. Check engine light has not come back on. Typically if the gas cap was the issue, how long before that code is cleared on it's own? If it doesn't clear, does that mean it wasn't the gas cap and I should take the car in for testing? I also have a 2012 Chevy Equinox LT...when gas cap is loose message will flash on panel that gas needs to be tightened. Is my Impala supposed to do same thing since it's a newer car? Thanks
