If a message was displayed then there should be a code stored in the cars computer. It could be a simple problem like a wheel speed sensor issue or something more serious. It would be best to have this vehicle looked at by a professional, or at least put a code scanner on it. These intermittent issues sometimes don't show up with just a code scan though.
