Check engine light came on

Low oil level itself does not illuminate a check engine light. It could, though, lead to engine oil pressure issues at various components in the valve train that could malfunction due to lack of pressure present from low oil levels. To find out what happened and if it's related or not -- and even to "turn the light off", you need a diagnostic tool to retrieve and analyze trouble codes -- then clear them.
