As os April 2015, there is now a recall out for the (APP) accelerator pedal position sensor. According to GM there is a broken solder connection inside the sensor. Call your local GM dealer and they will replace the sensor and pedal for free. Also if you have previously fixed this problem, contact GM and they will reimburse you for any cost of repairs related to this issue.
with 48k, it is out of the 3 36k warranty. it is up to the dealer. they can cover it but it is up to them the throttle body has to be replaced, most likely, and the cost is high. yes, your mechanic can replace it as it is a straight forward repair. Roy
Your throttle position sensor correlation malvunction can be diagnosed and repaired by any technician with a scanner who understands electronic systems. if your car is still under emissions warrantee the dealer is probably the only way to get warrantee work done. I would think that the car sould be still under warrrantee, you could look in the owner's warrantee manual for info or phone the dealer if there's any doubt.
We test and repair check engine light problems everyday. We verify codes by testing sensors and wiring and repairing as needed. The warranty question would have to be asked directly to the dealer. Let us know if we can help you.
I don't know if it can be fixed by a diy but I have the same problem and just picked up the Accelerator position sensor from Auto Zone. The Cost $72, and will let you know how it works. It looks to be 2 or 3 bolts and just unplug a cable to change it. The sensor comes as a complete assembly accelerator pedal & sensor in one. The url below shows how to do it, but you don't have to reprogram the computer on the impala. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2fP9lwYPDw&feature=player_embedded
Took my 2009 Impala to dealer today for this issue. The April 2015 "Special" warranty will only cover vehicles up to 120,000 miles. I paid $240 for a new gas pedal and it did not fix the issue. Received the Service Traction Control warning about half way home from the shop. Needless to say, I'm frustrated!
Try replacing throttle bod too, fixed the issue for me. Car stopped dying.
