When it comes to basic services such as car flushes,is it better to take my car to the dealership where I purchased it,or to local shops such as Firestone or Goodyear?

As long as you have a proof of services which indicates that the approved fluids / parts where used at the correct time and/or mileage, you won't lose the warranty - regardless who did the service. Zee
Counterpoint: from a dealership perspective, there is sometimes a little extra knowledge focused on a single make of vehicle that you see every single day that a factory trained technician experiences. Nothing at all taken away from non-dealer techs, just that many non-dealer techs work on such a wide spread of vehicles instead of similar ones over and over... Also, there are far less career minded individuals in my experience in the non-dealerships. Reliability can be spotty. Not to say at the dealer everything is always perfect! I still give the edge to the dealerships, having operated service departments for both dealer and non-dealer. As always, building a good rappore with a good technician and service advisor based on solid trust and faith is more important than anything, regardless where you visit. UPDATE: Here's another post with a great thought about why dealerships are sometimes better... http://repairpal.com/knocking-noise-225
