What is your question?
After some really cold weather in MN my car started overheating so I replaced thermostat and put in coolant again and found it was leaking from under the alternator and I was told it was a frost plug or expansion plug because it comes from a bolt hole on the block that didn't have a bolt in it before. I tried putting an expansion plug in there but it was just a hair too small. I took it to the shop because I was having such an issue figuring out the problem they are saying it's a timing belt cover gasket and it's going to run me 1500 dollars to fix it. I just don't know if that leaks coolant because I thought a timing chain got lubricated with oil and wouldn't have anything to do with coolant coming out. Can someone please shed some light on this problem? Thank you in advance!

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. Your engine front cover may have coolant passages sealed by the cover itself.Removing the timing cover and replacing the gasket is what the shop is saying the leak is coming from. Your thermostat housing and water pump are also in the way of timing cover removal and would have to be removed as well and resealed.
