Is there a engine light code that says tranny is done

I took my 2003 impala in for engine light. They said the code reads that the transmission and catalytic converter are done. I then took it to another place and he said to replace a sensor and the transmission solenoid. Paid 100 dollars for first one to diagnose and they say to sell the car or fix for 3000. Second person put on scope for free and said to replace sensor and solinoid for 1000. Who do I trust?
