The old seal wore a groove in the sealing surface at the shaft where the seal lip rides. Sometimes a thin wear sleeve can be installed to give it a new sealing surface for the seal lip to ride on. They can be tricky to install and if never done be prepared to damage one while attempting replacement. There may also be a seal that has an offset seal lip that you could install that would seal at a different spot on the axle.
Thank you so much! Im gonna get that installed this weekend. If still leaks, any suggestions of what else it could be?
Well there is always the possibility that the new seal was damaged when installed.
Now it looks like its leaking from driver side??? Any suggestions? This is driving me crazy!
If the original leak was on passenger side you must keep in mind that the seals are the same age, this is not uncommon, there is a drivers side and passenger side on all vehicles, like components can wear out the same but show the signs at different intervals. To make 100% sure of no leaks from these seals you would need new seals installed, new axle shafts for complete new sealing surfaces and anything that supports the axles and trans to be updated so all is new, that is not cost effective, fixing as needed is. Like I said, the offset seal or the sleeve are options. Good luck.
Thank you!
