Sounds like a possible transmission engagement issue. Too hard to say without evaluation. "Worth it" is always dependent on so many factors. Are you prepared to spend a ton of money on a new car? If so, then maybe you don't tow it to a shop and you move forward. But if not, they the only thing you can do is find out what's going on with the car you have.
