Van died out while I was driving. Trys to start but won't

Can you hear the in tank fuel pump turn on for 2 seconds when key is turned on? .. In a quiet environment.. Get a helper and listen at the fuel fill with cap removed... When key is turned on, the pump should run for a couple seconds... Can bump starter and let off key, pump should run for 2 seconds also .. Test several times if needed... Pump GOT to run before engine will START! (Cranks but will not turn over makes no sense!) .. (Crank but will not start does!)
