Hi this is Dusty, I'm one of the auto experts on RepairPal's Car Genius team. The code indicates a communication problem between the Transmission Control Module and the Engine Control Module. Given the symptoms you've described, the jerking when putting the car into gear, it's highly likely that the communication error is causing that and remedying the error will rectify the behavior. These types of communication errors can be software or module related, or there could be an issue with the network wires. You can start by inspecting the wiring and connectors between the two affected modules. Look for any signs of damage, corrosion, chaffing, water intrusion, or loose connections. Make sure all connections are secure, clean, and the terminals are firmly seated in the connector housings. Sometimes, a software glitch can cause communication problems, which will require the modules to be updated. This can be done by a competent, qualified technician using specialized diagnostic equipment. It's possible that the TCM (or other modules in the same communication loop) is faulty and needs to be replaced. But before replacing it, all other potential causes would need to be ruled out to avoid unnecessary parts costs.
