The key fob broke last week (key and Fob are now 2 pieces) However, it started and drove fine. Left it set for a week while on vacation, now it is having this issue....is the key fob the problem?

Whereas the key and fob may not be the problem, my rule of thumb is to always repair what you know to be faulty before going off to diagnose and repair a concern further. Repair the key and fob, and retest. It does sound as if it could be an anti-theft immobilizer fault. Other than that, you'll have to check the starting system to see where the fault lies, from ensuring the shift lever is in the park position and signaling that to the ignition switch, to the battery cabling and starter / relay...
