Should I buy a 2008 Chevy equinox that needs the oil pump replaced?

The oil pump provides needed oil pressure to various parts of the engine. An oil pump that is not working properly may have starved the engine of needed oil and caused damage already. I would be very wary of this purchase because you don't know enough about the engine.
