Why is a continuous warning beep coming from my car after it is turned off?

This just happens occasionally. It seems to start and stop spontaneously, regardless of what we do or don't do (lock doors, open/close trunk, etc.) Beeps are about a minute apart. It is similar to the beep some dishwashers make if the cycle is interrupted.

How long has your 2012 Chevrolet Cruze had this problem?
