should i take truck to repair pal approve shop or to carmax repair

My check engine light is coming on and a warning on the dash is saying emission system see owners manual 174 miles until 65mhp max power. i have carmax warranty but i want to know if i should take this to team 1 automotive to see if it's something simple or if i need to bring the truck into carmax first. I've try calling carmax but cant get anyone on the phone.

What makes this problem better or worse?
