The light for my cruise control comes on when I start the truck but won't come on when driving and won't work.

common problem with colorado's. It's the brake switch. There is a recall for them. You only get one freebie though. Some have complained that even the upgraded switch eventually fails like the original.
Could be your break light it happened me in 2010
