Hello, You may just have a bad ignition switch. The points in the ignition switch connect to different components when the key is in different positions, but if the ignition switch is suspected of allowing power to stay connected with the key off, it must be tested. You can test the ignition switch at the connector on the steering column, or where the wiring harness spits out underneath the dashboard. Please do not replace the ignition without confirming it is faulty. What happens if you turn your key off while the engine is on? Does it turn the vehicle off?
If i tirn key off when engines running, yes it shuts off. It runs great and lights work correctly when engine is working. When it just shuts off while driving, thats when lights wont go off. Ive shut down everytim when it was dark out. Otherday it shut down again while it was light out. I didnt notice any lights on so i did not unhook battery. Later when it got dark out, my neighbor knocked on my door to tell me my headlights were on! The KEY WASNT IN THE IGNITION!!! OMG. I cant take this anymore. Whats wrong with it. Why wont it start now. And why are lights connected to this problem
Hello, Sorry for the late reply, the issue is likely with your ignition switch, or bad relays. When your vehicle acts as if the key is turned to "ON", but the key is out, the very first thing I would check is the electronic portion of the ignition switch. The vehicle will not start because the headlights drained the battery, the ignition switch is not activating the systems it should, or both. Look at the links on the screen to find a shop in your area for diagnostics, as the ignition switch is likely bad, but this has not been proven.
