swapped out steering column with same year of truck now will not start

the truck is a 2500 6.5 diesel. we used a column out of same year truck and drove it for a couple weeks. we have new batteries and cables. it turns on and beeps with dash power for about a second or two and just shuts all power off. if you turn the key off and back on immediately there is no power at all. if you wait for a little bit it will light up for a second or two and lose all power.
