The pickup coil and/or the ign module in the distributer has been an issue with many in the past. Prices are better now days and is easier to change the distributer, which has the pickup coil, and the module already in it, new for around $100.00.

Found bare section of wire between battery and starter rubbing on frame. Repaired it.. problem solved.

Bare wires can sure cause you to lose your power. Good find.
