Found trans fluid on driveway approx mid truck. When I checked fluid level it reads way too high above full. I have not added any, could something cause high read or did someone else have to add it too cause reading? 1994 c1500 base shortbed w/t 4.3 vortec 2wd truck runs and shifts fine no running issues.

Yes, first drove short while to warm up then held in each gear for a few seconds and checked idling in park. Fluid not cloudy or milky , no bubbles or foam as it would if coolant leaked into cooling lines.
Somebody bound to have just overfilled it!.... Some shops have a machine that will extract the extra fluid, or just go ahead and service it with a drain, new filter & refill... In any case, get it back down to the proper level!!!.... Look for that leak also.... May be overflow from the vent on top of trans!
Found leak, seal at end of tail shaft where driveshaft enters. Luckily it was an easy seal to change. dropped pan while at it and changed filter inside. Found clean inside. Added new fluid to proper level. Trans should be good for another 100k now till next service.....
