What is your question?
I had oil leaking into my recovery tank, Test determined Head gasket change. I hire certified master mechanic to work my car which was for head gasket change. The head gasket was changed after done. then mechanic reported the car was having check light come on with code for cam position sensor. the position sensor was changed, still had the check light. The mechanic told me it was running well and maybe it was permanent code. reset the problem light i took car home not long after having the car home the light came back and parked the car. called my mechanic. He told me that the next step in logic tree was to replace cam and or replace the head. I do not see how aluminum head could affect the magnetic polarity. I can see if the magnetic chip on cam becoming demagnetized. Not a Aluminum head. The mechanic said he checked all wires i just cannot see buying new head if the cam does not clear the problem can you help me?

Hello, your "mechanic" is not following through with a troubleshooting process to determine the cause of your check engine light. Seek the guidance of another opinion, maybe try a RepairPal certified shop from the list in this link? https://repairpal.com/repair-shops/chevrolet-repair-and-service-in-atwater-california The problem is -- was there a head gasket problem? Are there other remaining issues? Was it all reinstalled correctly after tear down? There are too many things unknown here and too many variables. Based on the "knee jerk" reaction of your "mechanic" to replace the cylinder head or cam -- I call into question the skill here and equipment and reference material and suggest you need a different voice.
