Should a engine flush help my valves from being caked up

We use GM top engine cleaner for best results in removing carbon buildup on the back of valves. The procedure is to lrun the engine at 2500 rpm's, insert the fluid by removing a vacuum line that leads into the intake manifold, the let the fluid run into the intake until it stalls. Let it sit like this for half an hour to let the cleaner really loosen up the carbon. Then restart the engine, it will run rough at first and will probably have a check engine light on that will need to be cleared. And it WILL SMOKE A LOT. let the engine idle for a good 20 mins then take on a long road test.
