The oil seems to be find but will not register on my oil gage, is it the sending unit? are the sending unit and oil sensor the same thing. it is 2003 chev avalanche
How long has your 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche 1500 had this problem?

Listen closely to engine with hood up - 'IF' no unusual clicking or knocking noise(?) .. Highly recommend having actual oil pressure tested using a manual gauge - by qualified personnel.. IF engine is unusually noisy - turn engine OFF until it can be evaluated by qualified personnel. IF actual oil pressure is proven to be satisfactory - then it is most like the oil sending unit - oil pressure sensor - oil pressure switch .. ALL are the same thing - just different terminology.
